Vienna, oh Vienna! As we catch our breath post-ECR 2024, the overwhelming interest in technology was impossible to ignore. The excitement was palpable this year, and it was more than just the usual tech talk. It was a blend of innovation, symbiosis, and some seriously cool teamwork that's worth unpacking.
In a symphony of intelligence and innovation, AI showcased its prowess in reshaping the realm of diagnostic imaging at ECR 2024.
AI, with its cutting-edge machine-learning and deep-learning prowess, is reshaping the world of diagnostic imaging. Companies like Rayscape, AZmed, and Annalise.ai showcased AI's transformative impact, pushing the boundaries of accuracy. But it doesn't stop there. AI isn't just analyzing images; it's revolutionizing the way we capture them. From tracking patient breathing to reducing scatter in X-ray imaging, AI is the hero in enhancing the quality and speed of imaging services. Smarter workflows, harmonized protocols, and "one-click" setups are not just promises but a tangible reality saving valuable time.
This year, we were treated to three thought-provoking plenary lectures delivered by Rick Abramson, MD, MHCDS, FACR, Prof. Geoffrey Rubin, MD, MBA, FACR, and Annemiek Snoeckx, MD, PhD. These plenaries didn't just impart knowledge; they embraced an innovative presentation style, providing us with a sneak peek into the creative future of major lectures at upcoming ECRs.

Reflecting on the event, Prof.Carlo Catalanoshared, “As we bid farewell to ECR 2024, we find ourselves on the brink of a new era in radiology – one marked by innovation, collaboration, and limitless possibilities. ECR 2024 stands as a testament to the shared vision and determination of the global radiological community. Our collective commitment to embracing new technology and evolving our practices to enhance our role in patient care has been inspiring. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and contributed their personal visions for the next generation of radiology at this remarkable meeting. Together, we've crafted a collective blueprint that shapes the future of our noble profession.”
This year at ECR, we learned that Imaging plays a substantial role in total carbon dioxide emissions. The response? A collective commitment to decarbonize radiology. Sustainability took center stage, with vendors showcasing energy-saving modes that go beyond operational efficiency. The focus extended to ensuring the long-term viability of coils, the reuse of CT sensors, and MRI magnets – a true environmental allegiance. Technological advancements were not just about innovation; they were about embracing a greener radiology future.
Crucially, the participation of companies like GE HealthCare, Siemens Healthineers, United Imaging Healthcare, and Philips underscored their active involvement in steering the industry toward sustainability. It reflects a commitment to developing and promoting technologies that not only drive innovation but also align with the broader vision of an eco-friendly radiological landscape.

The year 2024 accelerated the interconnectedness of technology in the medical domain, and the spotlight was on connected systems. Vendors stepped up as long-term collaborators, addressing the challenges of staff shortages and heightened demand. Remote servicing for MRI and CT like the one provided by roclub, born from the shadows of the pandemic, became a cornerstone. Real-time monitoring software emerged as a superhero, aiding healthcare providers in fleet management, showcasing that technology can be a bridge, fostering collaboration, and easing the burden on healthcare professionals.

With shortages in the radiology workforce, the focus shifted to protecting, retaining, and supporting this vital group. Enter intelligent systems like #RadioReport by Neo Q Quality in Imaging GmbH, assisting in caseload prioritization, one-click examinations, and smart protocolling. The goal was clear – reduce reliance on operator expertise and elevate the efficiency and well-being of the radiology workforce. Technology is not just a tool but an ally in navigating workforce challenges.
As we bid farewell to ECR 2024, we stand at the cusp of a new era in radiology – one defined by innovation, collaboration, and boundless possibilities.

To all champions of our mission, thank you. We eagerly anticipate pushing the boundaries of healthcare technology and fostering a positive global impact together. Stay tuned as we journey into the future.
See you at ECR2025!
